Operation KP (Kitchen Project) is completed! We could not have succeeded without the involvement of the Kitchen Renovation Committee, Operation KP Fund Raising Committee, SAL, the Auxiliary and the Riders and the many, many donors from our membership and the local community-Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have this phenomenal kitchen built. The state of the art new Kitchen is up and running as of June 15, 2020. Post 28 will be offering new menu items in addition to our classic meals. Currently, under executive order 2020-114 we are practicing social distancing and are adhering to a 50% capacity within our Post. When the executive orders are lifted, we hope to get all our volunteers back in the kitchen and preparing new and classic menu items for all! More information to come.

operation "KP" Frequently Asked Questions
Why Now?
Our Post Building has been here more than 80 years! The last kitchen renovation was in 1945….74 years ago! As our membership has grown, so have the number of weekly dinners served.
What Needs to be Done and Why?
We discovered the kitchen needs new equipment -- including a new exhaust hood -- over our ovens. Health and safety codes have changed significantly over the past 74 years and Post 28's kitchen has kept up with the times. However, remodeling the kitchen is now needed for contemporary times. We will do it the right way and no other way.
What’s in it for the Post?
More room to accommodate increased meal service to our members and the public. The updated kitchen will enhance dinner service functionality and benefit all kitchen staff and volunteers. Heading into the next century, we need to accommodate changes in tastes. As Don "Chops" Rescorla and his wife, Ruth taught us in the 1970s, changes in food preferences, require changes in food choices.
What’s in it for me as a donor?
Pride, honor, and continued commitment to our mission of "veterans still serving veterans." For decades, our kitchen has raised proceeds for numerous veteran programs -- including Wilwin at Cygnet Cove -- and the Goodfellow’s program for children in need. American Legion Posts around the country look to us as a role model in serving veterans, veteran's families, and local communities.
What happens if we pass the $200K Goal?
Like our Post forefathers had the foresight to do, funds raised above the $200K goal will go into a Building Fund for anticipated upgrades -- including our roof -- which will soon need replacing. Our beloved building has been here for us for more than 80 years. And just like our homes, we need to update, renovate and maintain our Post building.
Together, we can ready our Post kitchen for the next century!
